Burrows Real Talk — Prostate Healthcare — Never Give UpBRTBurrows Health Project

About

I'm Patrick. I've had prostate cancer twice. I'm still here.

In December 2023 a doctor told me I had prostate cancer. I had my prostate removed. Then my PSA went back up, so I had radiotherapy every day for two months. That gave me a hernia, so that was another operation. I'm on hormone therapy now and I'll be on it for a long time.

I'm 63. I've worked in the NHS for over 25 years. I'm a DJ — a lot of people in north-west London know me as Instructor. None of that stopped me getting cancer, and none of it made me go to the doctor any earlier.

What I learned afterwards is the part that made me angry. Black men are twice as likely to get prostate cancer as white men. One in four of us. Twelve thousand men die of it every year in this country, and most of them are found too late, because nobody talks about it and nobody goes for the test.

So I started talking. In October 2025 I hired a hall in Harlesden and told a room full of people everything — the surgery, the radiotherapy, what hormone therapy does to your body, what it does to your marriage. I said the word "erection" in a church hall. Men came up to me afterwards and booked their PSA test that week.

That's Burrows Real Talk. Real stories, real doctors, real answers, in a room where nobody's embarrassed. Every talk is free. The donations and the ticket money from our fundraisers pay for the hall and the speakers.

I'm not going to be quiet about this. Come to a talk, send a man you love to one, or help me pay for the next one.

What BRT stands for

  • Awareness — the facts, in plain English, from people who've lived it
  • Action — a PSA test booked before you leave the room
  • Support — for the man, and for the family carrying it with him

Never give up. Stay strong and never surrender.

No man should die from ignorance. No family should lose a father, a brother or a son because we didn't talk about it.
